Baidon Lungu’s experience with the Going Beyond Project illustrates how providing a platform for growth can turn a motivated graduate into a community-focused entrepreneur.
The Challenge: Bridging the Gap
Before joining the project, Baidon was eager to grow but found himself limited by a lack of exposure to practical, youth-focused learning spaces. While he possessed strong academic knowledge and personal drive, he lacked the guidance and structure needed to discover his true strengths and present himself as a leader. He was looking for an opportunity to build his capacity and serve his community better4.
The Transformation: Expanding Horizons
Baidon’s journey was defined by an "eye-opening" curriculum that went far beyond the classroom. Through the project, he engaged with:
- Social Awareness: Gaining a deeper understanding of societal expectations through sessions on feminism and patriarchy.
- Digital Mastery: Learning the Business Model Canvas, Digital Marketing, and Online Safety to navigate a fast-changing world.
- Leadership Activities: Role-play scenarios and group reflections that pushed him out of his comfort zone and built a strong sense of connection with his peers.

The Result: Entrepreneurship and Purpose
The project has strengthened Baidon’s discipline and sense of purpose. He is currently applying his training in budgeting, financial planning, and record-keeping to manage and grow his own Mobile Money business.
Furthermore, as a facilitator, Baidon has mastered the ability to create safe, welcoming spaces for other youth, adapting his leadership style to meet different learning needs and personalities.
Looking Ahead: A Future-Focused Vision
Baidon aims to continue advancing his digital skills to maintain a competitive advantage in the modern economy. He is committed to serving as a mentor and facilitator, using the networking and professional pathways he discovered through Avencion to become one of Zambia’s successful entrepreneurs.
Baidon’s Advice for Youth Leaders:
- Never Stop Trying: Trust that your dreams can turn into reality, even when life feels difficult.
- Seek Self-Improvement: Growth comes through reading, attending conferences, and seeking guidance from experienced mentors.
